I am a legal anthropologist studying race, citizenship, and migration in Burma (Myanmar) and among the Burmese diaspora. I use historic, ethnographic, and visual studies methods to understand experiences of law and migration. I earned my Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2023, where my dissertation received distinction as the Social Sciences/Humanities section nominee for the national ProQuest Distinguished dissertation award.
My overseas research in Myanmar and the UK is supported by the Fulbright-Hays and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, among other institutions. I earned Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships to study Burmese from 2015 to 2017.
My current research focuses on the experience of irregular migrants leaving Burma in the wake of the nation’s 2021 military coup.
